Biography -- Fr. Valerian Rykowski |
Spiritual Director of Holy Trinity Apostolate
Fr. Valerian “Val†Rykowski is the spiritual director of Holy Trinity Apostolate. He has been an integral part of our formation and mission from the beginning of the apostolate. Through his guidance, we chose the name Holy Trinity Apostolate. It is only fitting that this name was chosen, when you understand the spirituality of Fr. Val and the providence of the Most Holy Trinity. From his earliest days in formation at St. Francis Seminary in Wisconsin, Fr. Val has been committed to knowing our God in His entirety, as the Most Holy Trinity. Since his ordination on March 20, 1943 he has spent over 63 years in the priesthood, as an apostolate for the Trinity. His Trinitarian spirituality has helped to form and guide our apostolate over the years. His greatest devotion is to the Most Holy Trinity through the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
The majority of Fr. Val’s life has been spent serving Holy Mother Church. From his early days as an altar boy in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to the present, he has served in parishes from Wisconsin to Michigan. He also spent nine and half years as the spiritual director/chaplain for the cloistered Carmelite Sisters in Traverse City, Michigan. His introduction to the faith began with the example often set by his parents, who were blessed with ten children. Fr. Val was born on November 12, 1916. Father often credits his mother’s knowledge of God as an example that we can all come to know God, even without formal education. Fr. Val was not the only religious to come from this family. He has a brother who is a priest, Fr. Jerry, who is also still serving today in Colorado.
Fr. Val is presently retired, although you would never know it. He still actively serves as a senior priest at Ss. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, in Sterling Heights, Michigan. Even though he is approaching his ninetieth birthday, he is still celebrating mass and confession daily, as well as, assisting at most of the other masses in the parish. He still carries out the administering of all the sacraments and is often involved with sick calls. Fr. Val’s passion for Holy Mother Church and the priesthood has also made him an active proponent for the religious life. Many men and women will credit Fr. Val with helping them to enter the religious life. Fr. Val also serves as a spiritual director for the Trinitarians of Mary, which is an order being formed in Mexico and the United States. Fr. Val’s love of religious life has also lent itself well to our apostolate’s ongoing efforts to promote our priests and religious. Indeed, Fr. Val’s guidance has been instrumental in every aspect of Holy Trinity Apostolate. In honor of him we pray, Blessed be the Most Holy Trinity and Mary.Â
Amen
